Denise O'Sullivan Scores on Dream Debut for Liverpool
Cork native Denise O'Sullivan made an immediate impact on her Liverpool debut, scoring just six minutes into the Women's FA Cup fourth-round match against London Bees at the Hive Stadium.[1][2][3]
The 31-year-old Republic of Ireland international, who officially joined Liverpool on Saturday in a club-record permanent transfer reportedly worth €350,000 from the North Carolina Courage after eight-and-a-half successful years in the NWSL, was thrust straight into the starting lineup.[2][3][4]
O'Sullivan, wearing the number six shirt, expertly turned a cross from the end-line by teammate Bernabe past the keeper at the near post to open the scoring. Liverpool went on to secure a comfortable 6-0 victory, advancing in the competition, with O'Sullivan playing 72 minutes before being substituted for Kirsty.[2][4][5]
Liverpool, who sit bottom of the Women's Super League with four points from 12 winless matches, recently bolstered their squad by also signing Martha Thomas on loan from Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the cup entry.[5][6]
"It means a lot. It's a very proud moment for myself and also for my family, who are now only a 40-minute flight away," O'Sullivan said. "Liverpool is a massive club... I want to come in and have an impact from the first minute... I am a natural leader, I want to lead by example."[2]
The midfielder expressed her determination to help Liverpool climb the WSL table and enjoy a strong cup run, emphasizing her commitment to giving 100% daily and leading with humility.[2]
