Fabrizio Romano has clarified recent transfer rumours surrounding Darwin Núñez, who moved from Liverpool to Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal in the summer of 2025 for around £46 million (€53 million). While reports from Argentine outlet Olé suggested Núñez was considering an early exit from Al-Hilal to join River Plate, Romano, a highly trusted football journalist, has dismissed these claims.

Romano confirmed that Núñez's representatives have denied any plans of a January transfer away from Al-Hilal. According to Romano's statement on X (formerly Twitter), Núñez is "completely focused on Al-Hilal and happy to stay at the club," indicating no current intention to leave Saudi Arabia earlier than planned.

Since joining Al-Hilal, Núñez has made a promising start, scoring five goals and providing two assists in eleven appearances. This follows his tenure at Liverpool, where he scored 40 goals in 143 matches, often coming off the bench, and was part of a Premier League-winning squad. His transfer to Al-Hilal marked the end of an eventful chapter in the English Premier League and represented a financial loss for Liverpool, who sold him for less than his original purchase price.

The clarification from Romano puts to rest early speculation about Núñez seeking a move away from Al-Hilal within a year of signing, reinforcing that the Uruguayan striker remains committed to his current club at this time.
