RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande has been linked with a move to Liverpool for months, and journalist Fabrizio Romano has now provided a new update on his future. The 19-year-old looked like the Reds’ first choice to replace Mohamed Salah at Anfield this summer, but journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that alternatives are being looked at, which makes perfect sense: “As I revealed, three other targets are Mathias Fernandez Pardo, who’s also at the World Cup, Said El Mala, who has had other Premier League interest this window, and Brighton’s Yankuba Mintah.

I think it’s fair to say they’re actively working on those alternatives simply because it gives you leverage in the market as well.” Paris Saint-Germain have emerged as the favourites to sign Diomande in the summer transfer window, however, and writing on X, Romano claimed that talks are ongoing over a move there: “Paris Saint-Germain agreed personal terms with Yan Diomande in June but more clubs keep calling to try enter the deal. There’s no agreement between PSG and RB Leipzig yet, talks continue – up to PSG now.” Are Liverpool still in the race to sign Yan Diomande?

Diomande would be such an exciting signing for Liverpool, considering how much potential the Ivorian has, but as things stand, it may be nothing more than a pipe dream for them. If Diomande does choose the Ligue 1 giants, the main hope is that it paves the way for Liverpool to sign Bradley Barcola from PSG, with the Frenchman potentially being pushed further down the wide pecking order under Luis Enrique.
