Federico Chiesa believes Florian Wirtz is one of the best players he’s ever seen with the ball at his feet, giving his new Liverpool teammate the highest praise he could. “The way he controls the ball, the way he touches the ball, it’s just world class.

“He’s maybe getting some criticism, people think [working] against the ball is not one of his strengths,” he explained. “But actually he’s probably one of the best players in Europe [off the ball].

“Possession won in the final third [last season], in the Bundesliga [he’s second], in Europe’s top five leagues he’s seventh and in the Champions League he was third. “It’s not the fact he can’t do it: he’s actually one of the best players at doing it.
