Hammarby head coach Kim Hellberg is no longer in the running for the Swansea job.”Should a deal go ahead, it will be Matos’s second role as a manager, having previously enjoyed spells working with Jurgen Klopp and Pep Lijnders. What Vitor Matos has done since leaving LiverpoolSpeaking in October 2019, Lijnders described Matos as Liverpool’s signing of the season. As per the Evening Standard, he said: “For me, he is our best signing this season.“He is a talented coach, a very intelligent coach. He can make the next step with all these young players.

We have already seen the impact he has made on them. “Having one really intelligent, talented coach for young players, he can inspire eight or nine of them – it’s really important to have the right people in front of them – he connects, he influences the boys on the pitch and trains with them.”Matos departed Anfield at the same time as Klopp, taking up a role as RB Salzburg’s assistant coach under Lijnders. However, the former Liverpool staff members left the Austrian outfit in December 2024 after a poor start to the season. In June 2025, Matos was given his first job as a senior manager, linking up with Portuguese team Maritimo, whom he remains in charge of and has taken to third place in Liga Portugal 2.
