Norwegian comes in to assist football department while hunt goes onRangers have brought in former Liverpool and Norway defender Stig Inge Bjornebye as a football consultant and advisor until the end of the season.Bjornebye, 56, began his role with Rangers earlier this week and will assist the Ibrox hierarchy with the January transfer window and provide guidance and support to the football department for the rest of the 2025/26 campaign.Capped 75 times by Norway, Bjornebye played for Rosenborg, Liverpool, Brondby and Blackburn. While Fraser Thornton has assumed temporary CEO duties, Bjornebye will bolster the football operations side of the club.The Scotsman understands that Rangers are continuing their search for a permanent sporting director and that Bjornebye’s arrival will not shake up the current football structure.Brought in on a six-month deal, Bjornebye will work with head coach Danny Rohl and the recruitment team over the next seven weeks as Rangers aim to rejig up their squad for the second half of the season, with chairman Andrew Cavenagh and his deputy Paraag Marathe of 49ers Enterprises still charged with having the final say on decisions.Bjornebye comes in with Rangers currently third in the Premiership, with new head coach Rohl having won six of his first eight league games and drawing the other two. They are all but eliminated from the Europa League with two games to spare.Rangers are back in action on Sunday when they face leaders Hearts at Tynecastle.
