Cody Gakpo's Netherlands withdrawal adds to Liverpool injury woes Updated / Monday, 28 Sep 2026 15:05 Getty Cody Gakpo leaving the field of play in Belgrade Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo has withdrawn from international duty with the Netherlands after he sustained an ankle injury. Liverpool confirmed on Monday that Gakpo will now return to undergo further assessment from the club's medical staff.

Gakpo, who has made a strong start to the season for the Reds with two goals and four assists, will now miss Nations League games against Greece and the return fixture with Serbia. The extent of Gakpo's injury is not yet known and it remains to be seen whether he will be in line to return for Liverpool's first game following the international break against Manchester City.

The news serves as another blow for Andoni Iraola during the international break after striker Alexander Isak also returned to the club after he picked up a minor injury while playing for Sweden.
