Harvey Elliott Wanted by MLS Sides

Liverpool FC is considering sending midfielder Harvey Elliott on loan to Major League Soccer (MLS) amid frustrations with his current stint at Aston Villa.[1][2]

Following Liverpool's £450m squad overhaul in summer 2025—which included record signings like Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz—Elliott, a 22-year-old England U21 international, was loaned to Aston Villa with an option to buy for £35m if he made 10 appearances.[1][2][3] The deal was expected to become permanent in 2026, but Elliott has been frozen out by manager Unai Emery, playing no minutes since October 2, 2025.[1]

The Reds are reportedly "hugely annoyed" by the lack of game time, which has also frustrated Elliott, who aimed for a senior England breakthrough ahead of the FIFA World Cup.[1][2] Liverpool had banked on the transfer fee, but Villa shows no interest in activating the clause.[2]

Complicating matters, FIFA rules limit Elliott to no more than two clubs per season. Having already played for Liverpool and Aston Villa in 2025/26, a move within the same calendar would be impossible—opening doors to leagues like MLS or Brazil's Brasileirão, whose seasons overlap.[1][2]

Interest from MLS clubs is mounting as their 2026 season starts soon after the January window.[1] Discussions are planned between Liverpool and Villa to resolve the situation, with the Merseysiders poised to intervene before the 10-game threshold.[1] However, a BBC Sport report clarifies no MLS move is currently under consideration.[2]

Elliott's estimated transfer value stands at €34.5M–€42.2M, confirming his status as a promising advanced playmaker (left-footed, 170cm).[3] A premature end to his Villa loan could see him return to Anfield or explore new opportunities for vital minutes.[2]
