Liverpool are ready to return to Premier League action as they continue the defence of their league title.Arne Slot proved last season that any doubts over his ability to take charge and be a success at the club were unfounded when he won the league in his debut season. The Dutchman has been a brilliant choice to lead Liverpool following Jurgen Klopp’s departure, with the energetic charisma of the German replaced by Slot’s calm demeanour. What has been interesting this season is to see how the 47-year-old will approach his next season with the Reds, and so far, it has been a mixed bag.The initial unbeaten run saw some subpar performances but great moments and, more importantly, results. However, following that run was a three-game losing streak with two of those defeats in the top-flight putting Liverpool one point behind Arsenal.Photo by Gerrit van Keulen/Soccrates/Getty ImagesNow, because of these results, many pundits have questioned Slot with Sol Campbell calling the manager ‘lucky’ because he inherited the team from Klopp. The comments felt unfair, given that it is always difficult coming into a new league and performing as well as he did without making any proper signings of his own.READ MORE: Sol Campbell dismisses Arne Slot’s Premier League title win with Liverpool… ‘he’s lucky’Simon Jordan has agreed with the statement made by Campbell and believes that it is only fair to acknowledge that he has inherited his team. However, during his talkSPORT show, he admitted that he does deserve praise for turning them into a success because it could have easily gone wrong for the manager.Jordan explained: “I think there’s nothing controversial about that to some extent. And if you’ve brought no players in and you’ve had no battles to fight and you’ve had to not convince the dressing room to follow you, then you’ve had some fortune and that’s a tribute back to Jurgen Klopp.“But I look at it and think that there is an element of what Sol Campbell said that is probably accurate.
I do think that we’re seeing Slot now having to reassemble a Liverpool side because of a selection of reasons.“So I think there’s something in what Sol’s saying. But I also think you make your own luck, and he could have also been not particularly effective, gone into a dressing room that was perfectly capable of being successful, and turned it into an unsuccessful one.“So you have to give Slot lots of praise, and you also have to recognise a landscape that very rarely do you come into a dressing room and there’s very little wrong.
“You can make the argument Liverpool tailed off under Klopp. And that may well also be because Jurgen Klopp created a vacuum by saying he wanted to leave as early as he did.”Arne Slot needs this Manchester United game following the international breakAfter an international break, it is always difficult to readjust for many teams because their squads have played multiple games in a matter of days, and their fitness is usually affected. While there have been some injuries during the break, many do not seem too serious, all things considered, and Slot could have an almost full-strength squad by the time Sunday comes around. The Manchester United match is the one that the Dutchman needed following the break because of its significance to fans and the fact that it is back at Anfield. Both make for a perfect storm for a manager who needs his team to respond well after a poor run of results. This run of form will not affect how Slot approaches the game, and because he is such a fantastic manager, there is no doubt he will manage his squad to put on a brilliant performance to boost hopes of retaining the title.
