Liverpool could not have made a better decision when choosing the manager to lead the club into the post-Jurgen Klopp era.Plenty of candidates were put forward in an attempt to continue the good times at Anfield, but arguably none could have emulated what Arne Slot has done since his appointment.As good as the Dutchman is, however, he was not the person many envisaged being in the dugout at Anfield once Klopp called time on his Liverpool career.For a while, it had looked as though legendary former captain Steven Gerrard was the heir-apparent to the German.Gerrard led Rangers to an undefeated league title, and a move to Aston Villa was seen as the next logical step before a return to Liverpool. However, things fell flat at Villa Park, with Gerrard’s subsequent move to Al Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia seemingly ending all hope of him ever becoming Liverpool manager.The Scouser now looks poised to make a return to British football, though, and supporters may be hoping that the Gerrard fairy-tale could yet come true against the odds.
