Image Credits: Hugo Ekitike (Instagram)Hugo Ekitike suffered an Achilles injury after being forced off 31 minutes into Liverpool’s Champions League quarter-final defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.The club have since confirmed the France international has ruptured his Achilles tendon.
The injury is expected to rule him out for at least nine months, meaning he will miss this summer’s World Cup as well as the start of next season.Ekitike, 23, had enjoyed a standout campaign and was widely regarded as one of Liverpool’s key performers, but his season has ended abruptly after the setback at Anfield.Liverpool head coach Arne Slot described the injury as “devastating” but said he is confident the striker will “come back even stronger.“He hasn’t been operated on yet,” Slot said. Your first thoughts are always with him, being out for such a long time and missing out on so many special moments.“He is not the first and he will not be last player who will experience something like this at the start of his career and there are so many examples of players that have come back even stronger.“That’s the challenge he has now and I’m 100% sure in 10-15 years he will maybe even say this injury helped me become even stronger and even more ready to perform at an even higher level than before.”Having been ruled out of this summer’s World Cup, Hugo Ekitike has shared a heartbreaking post on Instagram.
He posted an image of himself in a France national team shirt, in tears as he looked at the World Cup trophy, reflecting his disappointment at missing the tournament. He posted on Instagram saying: “I’m out of here, I’ll be back soon.” Ekitike’s injury leaves Alexander Isak as Liverpool’s only recognised senior striker.Isak has only recently returned from the broken leg he suffered in December. The France international, who joined Slot’s side from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer, is Liverpool’s top scorer this season, registering 17 goals in 45 appearances and adding six assists across all competitions.
