Few other players can lay claim to such an up-and-down career.Shelvey first caught the eye while playing for Charlton Athletic, where he became the club’s youngest-ever player in 2008, aged just 16.
Two years later, still as a teenager, the Englishman put pen to paper on a move to Liverpool, where he was tipped to inherit the Reds’ midfield crown from legendary star Steven Gerrard.Charlton chairman Richard Murray said at the time of the £1.7million deal: "It's with the greatest reluctance that we have accepted an offer for Jonjo from Liverpool.
