Rio Ngumoha set for right wing role According to The Times‘ Paul Joyce, Liverpool will use Ngumoha on the right wing more often than not next season amid plans to sign Bradley Barcola for the left flank. “Ngumoha’s signature move would be to cut off the left onto his right foot and try to find the corner of the net which he did with aplomb when scoring his second Premier League goal against Fulham back in April.
“However, Liverpool’s pursuit of Bradley Barcola, the Paris Saint-Germain attacker, is with a view to playing him in his preferred position on the left. “Cody Gakpo is best suited to that side, Victor Muñoz can play there, too, and Florian Wirtz often peels off to the left where he has been deployed by Germany.” Playing out of position will aid Ngumoha’s development as an elite attacker Traditionally, using someone out of position is seen as a mistake, but for such a young attacker, learning to be effective wherever he is will be such a boon for Ngumoha.
Kylian Mbappe was often used on the right wing when he was at AS Monaco, and he learned to be devastating there despite being more comfortable on the left wing or as a centre-forward. It will be harder to score from the right for Ngumoha, but his pace, trickery and youthful creativity will serve him just as well on the right as it has on the left.
