(Credit: Imago) Wed 13 May 2026 19:29, UK James Tavernier should be ashamed of his actions after news of a bust-up with Danny Rohl is set to see him miss out on his final Rangers home game. Rangers’ home game against Hibernian is immaterial in terms of their final position in the Premiership, but Tavernier is now not expected to attend what would have been his final outing at Ibrox. ⚽ Rangers Matchday ⚽ Team news, line-ups, expert previews and verdicts, and tactical analysis for every Gers fixture.
Tavernier had expected to walk out at Ibrox from the off in front of his family for one final time, but Rohl clearly felt that he was not part of his strongest XI, which would give his team the best chance to win the game. Even if he hadn’t started the game, the right-back would surely have been introduced from the bench to a standing ovation from all inside the ground, which arguably would have provided him with just as special a moment as leading the team out.Instead of accepting Rohl’s call and awaiting his chance to take the limelight midway through the evening, Tavernier appears to have been bang out of order with his reaction, and that has ultimately cost him the chance to say goodbye to the fans.
However, Tavernier’s actions will surely now have added fuel to the fire in terms of the calls for Rohl to lose his job in the coming weeks. Regardless of whether his actions were the correct ones, the Rangers faithful have the utmost respect for Tavernier and what he stands for, and with that in mind, his decision to walk out may turn people against Rohl even more.
