Instead, he thinks they could end up going down the route of bringing in a lesser-known name, as they did a few years back when they signed Ben Davies. He said: “I think Liverpool will go more that way rather than a centre-forward or buying someone they don’t quite fancy.“I go back to a few years ago when Liverpool had a lot of centre-backs out at one stage, Van Dijk, Matip, Joe Gomez.“They brought in a lad from Preston [Davies] and a player called Kabak who came in from outside the Premier League as well, Liverpool may find a striker who can do that, but I don’t think they’ll sign a player who they don’t fancy.”What happened to former Liverpool player Ben Davies?Davies joined Liverpool at the very end of the 2021 winter transfer window from Preston North End.It seemed like a bit of a panic buy brought about by, as Carragher mentioned, a lot of injuries in their centre-back department. The notion of Davies being a panic buy was further drilled home by the now 30-year-old failing to make a single senior appearance for the Reds before being loaned to Sheffield United in August 2021.After having zero impact at Anfield, the stopper was sold to Rangers a year later. He is still on the Scottish outfit’s books but is currently on loan at Oxford United.
