Jeremie Frimpong's Scathing Liverpool Assessment After Dismal Leeds Draw

By Mirror Sport Reporter | Published January 1, 2026

Liverpool's goalless draw against Leeds United at Anfield on New Year's Day has sparked fury among fans, with many directing their anger at manager Arne Slot. Despite dominating possession with nearly two-thirds of the ball (around 66%), the Reds mustered just three shots on target from 16 attempts, failing to break down a resolute Leeds defense.[1]

The hosts completed 584 passes at 93% accuracy, more than double Leeds' 237 at 78%, but creativity was sorely lacking. Frustrated supporters flooded social media with calls to "sack Slot", branding his side the "most boring Liverpool team of our generation" and lamenting "shocking management" despite heavy spending.[1]

Adding to the discontent, Liverpool right-back Jeremie Frimpong delivered a candid, scathing assessment post-match. The Dutch defender called the result "frustrating" and admitted his team didn't try hard enough. Speaking to Sky Sports via BBC, he said: "We wanted to win the game. They defended well. At the end of the day, 0-0 very frustrating, but onto the next game."[1]

Frimpong praised Leeds' organization but was brutally honest about Liverpool's shortcomings: "They defended really well. Obviously we tried, but we didn't try hard enough. We had a couple, I had a couple I think I should have delivered the ball better."[1]

Looking ahead, the 24-year-old urged focus: "Training, recover, we know what we can do. We have created a lot of chances. We need to go into the next game and do what we need to do but better. We know what we should do, we know the movements and we know the patterns."[1]

Historically, Liverpool have won five of their last seven New Year's Day Premier League games, while Leeds have just one victory in the same span. This stalemate piles pressure on Slot as the title race intensifies.[1]
