Defender Jeremy Jacquet has completed his £60m transfer to Liverpool from Rennes, signing a five-year deal at Anfield after successfully recovering from the shoulder injury that delayed the January agreement.Jeremy Jacquet has fully recovered from shoulder surgery and will be available for Liverpool's pre-season programme, which gets under way later this month. The centre-back's switch from Rennes, agreed back in January, was officially confirmed on Wednesday. The Reds are set to pay an initial £55m with a further £5m in add-ons, making him the second most expensive defender in Anfield history, behind only Virgil van Dijk, who cost £75m from Southampton in January 2018.Jacquet suffered a season-ending shoulder injury shortly after his summer move was rubber-stamped on transfer deadline day earlier this year, but the 20 year old has since completed his recovery, meaning he is immediately available to Andoni Iraola.Jacquet has put pen to paper on a five-year deal with the option of a sixth, as he prepares to battle for a starting berth alongside Joe Gomez, Giovanni Leoni and club captain Van Dijk. The Dutchman is expected to feature on the summer tour of the United States following the Netherlands' exit from the World Cup at the round-of-32 stage on Monday, reports the Liverpool Echo.Liverpool saw off interest from a host of European clubs during the winter transfer window, most notably Chelsea, and it is understood the young defender is keen to learn from two-time Premier League winner Van Dijk, who celebrates his 35th birthday this month.

Jacquet suffered an awkward fall in the second half of Rennes' 3-1 loss to Lens in Ligue 1 in early February and departed the field in clear pain before it was subsequently confirmed he would require surgery. However, having undergone the operation a few weeks after sustaining the injury, Jacquet has been back on the pitch during his summer break, working to an individually-tailored training plan ahead of his arrival at the AXA Training Centre later this month.Jacquet arrives 11 months after 19 year old Leoni was brought in for just under £30m from Parma with Liverpool believing they have secured the two finest young defenders from France and Italy. It's uncertain how close Leoni is to returning from the ACL injury he picked up on his debut against Southampton in the Carabao Cup last September. However, the young Italian has been back working in the gym at the AXA Centre for some time, and an update is anticipated this month from new manager Iraola.Jacquet joins the club on the same day Real Madrid officially completed their deal for Ibrahima Konate, who departs Liverpool as a free agent.
