Liverpool are weighing up the possibility of selling Alexis Mac Allister during the summer transfer window, according to journalist Ben Jacobs. The Argentine has had a difficult campaign, looking a shadow of the player who was so vital to the Reds’ Premier League title win last year. With two years remaining on his contract, and no fresh talks over an extension, Jacobs has claimed that Mac Allister is more likely to leave Liverpool than fellow under-performer Cody Gakpo. Is a fifth-place finish enough to warrant Arne Slot remaining Liverpool manager?

As journalist James Pearce noted earlier this week, Gakpo has been ‘really poor’ this season as well, meaning his value is not anything like at its peak. The same could be said of Mac Allister, though, and despite his difficulties it would still be a wrench to see him leave and give up on what had looked set to be an extremely productive Liverpool career. Things have not gone well for him this season, but is that really reason enough to simply give up on him?
