Rio Ngumoha dazzled on his senior England debut as the Three Lions beat New Zealand 1-0 in a World Cup warm-up matchRio Ngumoha was left "speechless" after his electric England senior debut earned him the player of the match award and glowing praise from Jude Bellingham and Jordan Pickford.Liverpool livewire Ngumoha, 17, came on at half-time of the Three Lions' 1-0 World Cup warm-up win over New Zealand in Tampa, where Harry Kane scored the only goal.Ngumoha, who made 29 appearances for the Reds last season, isn't in Thomas Tuchel's final 26-man squad for the World Cup, but has been called up for the pre-tournament friendlies to boost numbers alongside Bournemouth's Alex Scott, Fulham midfielder Josh King and Ethan Nwaneri, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Marseille from Arsenal. The teenager hadn't been expected to figure in either the New Zealand clash or Wednesday's meeting with Costa Rica in Orlando, but his impressive display on the right flank has led to fans suggesting his omission from the tournament is a mistake.Ngumoha, who is usually utilised on the left for Liverpool, replaced Ollie Watkins at the break and immediately gave England more of a threat down the flank.Team-mate Bellingham was suitably impressed, and in a video posted to England's social media channels after the match he showered Ngumoha with praise as he presented him with his first cap."Congratulations on an amazing debut," says Bellingham in the video. "I think we all enjoyed watching it, and obviously you're going to have a really bright future at your club and hopefully with us as well."It's a pleasure to give it [the cap] to you because I know there'll be so many more.
So, congratulations."The shy Ngumoha then replies: "Thank you everyone. I just want to say thank you.
We keep going!"Everton and England goalkeeper Pickford was also full of praise for Ngumoha, telling the Press Association: "He was quality, nothing fazed him."He's had a really good season at Liverpool and the manager gave him his debut and he showed how good he is."All the young lads have been brilliant in training, they have moulded into the squad and helped us massively and it also shows the talent we have in the system. It is a credit to the academies and the pathway we have in English football."Despite his impressive display, Ngumoha - who has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich, although Liverpool have no intention of selling him - isn't in line to be promoted to the World Cup squad as he wasn't in Tuchel's initial 55-man provisional squad submitted to FIFA in May, with Scott the only one of the four additional squad members on the list.Elsewhere in the US there was a Liverpool reunion as Brazil beat Egypt 2-1 in Ohio, where Alisson, Fabinho and Mohamed Salah posed for a photo together at full-time.Alisson played the first 45 minutes for Brazil, while Fabinho and Salah both came on at half-time.Florian Wirtz also featured for 80 minutes of Germany's 2-1 win over USA in Chicago.FOLLOW OUR LIVERPOOL FC FACEBOOK PAGE!
