Jurgen Klopp reveals truth on Michael Edwards relationship

Jürgen Klopp has publicly addressed his professional relationship with Michael Edwards following Edwards’ appointment as Fenway Sports Group’s (FSG) new CEO of Football. Edwards, who previously served as Liverpool’s sporting director from 2012 to 2022 and played a pivotal role in shaping the club’s recruitment and success, returned to the club’s parent company with a mandate to oversee football operations. Klopp described their relationship as “really good” on a professional level and expressed happiness about Edwards’ return to Liverpool.

Klopp confirmed he has already spoken to Edwards about the club's situation, including player evaluation and strategic matters. He emphasized that Edwards’ new role marks a positive step for the club's future. Despite Edwards’ return, Klopp firmly stated that there was no discussion or expectation regarding Klopp reversing his decision to leave Liverpool at the end of the current season. Klopp clarified, “Can you imagine I change my mind? Of course not,” highlighting his commitment to stepping down as planned.

Edwards’ responsibilities now include appointing Liverpool’s next sporting director and helping to find Klopp’s successor as manager. Klopp indicated confidence in Edwards’ abilities to guide Liverpool through this transition, calling the appointment a “top solution” for the club’s future. He acknowledged the many achievements during their previous collaboration and noted that while Edwards took a break from the club to pursue other endeavors, his return brings optimism.
