Liverpool have had their fair share of elite strikers throughout their history. The Reds have always been synonymous with attacking football, with Jurgen Klopp taking this to a new extreme when he first arrived. The German enjoyed a ‘heavy metal’ style of approach that saw them try and outscore opponents, although a little bit more control was brought in as his tenure went on.This did not stop Liverpool scoring plenty of goals, though, with a front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah terrorising defences all over Europe week after week. However, despite having all these top forwards, Klopp actually named another player as the best finisher at the club, proving just how clinical he was, although fast-forward to today, and he has not played a game of football in almost 1095 days.Photo by PAUL ELLIS/AFP via Getty ImagesJurgen Klopp believed Divock Origi was the best finisher at LiverpoolThere is a fine line between cult hero and legend, but it is safe to say that many Liverpool fans would not argue against Divock Origi being in either of these categories. The Belgian may never have been the best footballer at the club, but he certainly came up with his fair share of hugely important goals. From last-minute winners in the Premier League, to Champions League heroics against Barcelona and Tottenham, Origi has cemented himself as one of the most iconic strikers in Liverpool’s modern history.Taking all things into consideration too, he was an incredibly adept goalscorer and is probably underrated for just how good he was, with Klopp even once labelling him as the “best finisher” at the club.“He [Origi] is a legend on and off the pitch. Fantastic footballer, a world class striker and is our best finisher,” Klopp said in 2022 to ESPN after Liverpool had just beaten Everton 2-0.“Everyone would say the same.
You see this in training. It is a really hard decision to make to leave him out.
Everyone loves Divock here.”READ MORE: Dirk Kuyt once revealed the key part he played in bringing Luis Suarez to LiverpoolDuring this Merseyside derby, he came off the bench to score a crucial goal, just like he did in so many games during his Liverpool career, hence why he is adored by the Anfield faithful. With legendary status secured, Origi departed Liverpool in 2022 in search of a new challenge, with the Belgian joining AC Milan on a free transfer. At the time, this looked to be an excellent move for the striker, but three years on, it has turned into a nightmare. He has featured only 36 times for the Italian giants, scoring just twice, with a failed loan move to Nottingham Forest in the 2023/24 season not managing to get his career back up and running.Things got a lot worse when he returned to Italy, though, as the striker has been exiled from the first-team and banished to the reserves, although he still has not played a game for them either. A move this summer was expected to happen, but it is reported that he had been refusing to allow Milan to terminate his contract without paying him compensation, showing just how sour things have got.Still only 30, it is a shame to see the direction in which his career has gone in, but there is still plenty of time for him to get back on track, although where he goes next is still a mystery.
