The Irishman, 39, lasted just six months as the club's permanent boss and paid the ultimate price for a poor start to the 2025-26 campaign, overseeing just four wins in 15 Championship games.Hellberg quickly emerged as one of the top contenders to succeed Sheehan at Swansea after impressing in Sweden with Hammarby and was thought to be close to agreeing a switch to south Wales.READ MORE: Wealthy mystery fan gives EFL club £1MILLION loan after being plunged into administrationREAD MORE: Non-league match abandoned after 'sexist comment' aimed towards female refereeBut with Middlesbrough now in pole position to land Hellberg, Swansea have turned their attention elsewhere, with BBC Sport confirming on Monday evening that Matos was one of the coaches now being considered.Matos, 37, is no stranger to English football after spending five years on the books at Liverpool, where he worked as an elite development coach between 2019 and 2024 under Jurgen Klopp. He is currently in his first head coach role with Maritimo in Portugal, whom he has guided to third place in the second-tier.

He inherits a Canaries side who are second from bottom in the Championship as a result of their disastrous start to the season under Liam Manning, who was sacked after overseeing seven consecutive home league defeats.Clement said: "I've known of this club for a long time and, whilst we are not in a good moment at this time, we are excited to work together with the players and staff to turn things around," Clement told Norwich's official website."Meeting with the owners and hearing some of their ambitions for the club, it really convinced me that this is the best move."They have big plans for the future but, of course, our job in the short term is to turn around the current situation and get everyone believing again."Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
