Juventus are believed to have already offered personal terms to Alisson but are currently not going to qualify for the Champions League, Image Credits: Imago ImagesJuventus’ push to sign Alisson has been one of the more eye-catching stories to emerge ahead of the summer window, with reports in Italy suggesting the Liverpool goalkeeper has become a serious target for the Turin club.Reliable Italian journalist Matteo Moretto reported last month that Juve have already reached a verbal agreement with Alisson over personal terms, a development which naturally raised eyebrows given both his importance to Liverpool and what the fanbase thinks of him. That reported progress makes Juventus’ current Serie A situation all the more significant. Heading into the final Serie A matchday, the Bianconeri are sitting outside the Champions League places at the time of writing.Their qualification hopes are in real danger, with their fate no longer fully in their own hands sitting in 6th place. They must hope that the likes of either AC Milan, Como and AS Roma drop points and that they win vs Torino in the final Serie A matchday of the season.Missing out on Europe’s top competition would be expected to damage Juventus in the transfer market, especially when chasing elite names. That appears to be the case with Bernardo Silva, who has also been linked as a target, with TuttoJuve reporting that the absence of Champions League football would make that deal far more complicated. The same report presents Silva as a player whose arrival would be much harder to pull off if Juventus are left with Europa League football instead. But the Alisson situation is being framed differently.

In that same TuttoJuve report, citing Gazzetta dello Sport, Alisson is not expected to view missing out on the Champions League as a dealbreaker and would still be open to joining Juventus even if they are only in the Europa League next season. The report adds that, unlike Bernardo Silva, the Brazilian goalkeeper remains favourable towards the move despite the uncertainty around Juve’s final league position. That does not mean a transfer is suddenly close or inevitable, because Liverpool would still need to sanction any sale and there is every chance the club will fight to keep one of their most important players.Still, if the reporting is accurate, Juventus’ Champions League peril may not kill their Alisson dream outright. Instead, it could simply test how serious both sides really are once the season ends and the summer market begins to move.
