Keegan's Illustrious Career

Kevin Keegan's football journey began at Scunthorpe United before Bill Shankly signed him for Liverpool in 1971. There, he became a legend, winning three First Division titles, the FA Cup, two UEFA Cups, and the 1977 European Cup.[2]

Transitioning to management in 1992, Keegan returned to Newcastle United, promoting them to the Premier League and nearly securing the 1995/96 title, only to finish runners-up to Manchester United. He left St James' Park in January 1997 after legendary "I would love it" rant.[2]

A brief stint at Fulham preceded his appointment as England manager in 1999, replacing Glenn Hoddle. His tenure ended after a poor Euro 2000 and a defeat to Germany at Wembley.[2]

Keegan later managed Manchester City until 2005, announcing retirement from football. He made an emotional comeback to Newcastle in 2008 but departed after eight months amid board tensions with owner Mike Ashley.[2]

News of Keegan's diagnosis has shocked the football world, with tributes expected to pour in for the iconic figure known for his passion and achievements.[1][2]
