Former Everton chairman Keith Wyness has expressed surprise at the rapid development and impact of Youssef Chermiti since joining Rangers on loan from Everton. Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Wyness highlighted Chermiti's seamless adaptation to Scottish football and his contributions to Rangers' title charge.

Chermiti's Impressive Start

Chermiti, the 20-year-old Portuguese striker, arrived at Ibrox in January 2026 on a season-long loan deal amid limited opportunities at Goodison Park. In just eight appearances, he has netted four goals and provided two assists, including a brace in a crucial 3-1 win over Celtic. Wyness, who oversaw Chermiti's £15m transfer to Everton in 2023, noted: "I'm genuinely surprised by how quickly he's settled. His movement, finishing, and work rate have been exceptional. Rangers fans are getting a glimpse of why we invested so heavily."

Wyness on Tactical Fit and Future

Wyness praised manager Philippe Clement's deployment of Chermiti as a central forward, allowing the youngster to exploit spaces behind defenses. "He's adding a new dimension to Rangers' attack. The physicality of the Premiership suits him better than the Premier League right now," Wyness added. He believes this stint could prove pivotal for Chermiti's career, potentially earning him a first-team spot at Everton next season or attracting bigger clubs.
