Kevin Danso Reacts as Bundesliga Loan Deal Finalised

Tottenham Hotspur have finalised a dramatic loan deal for RC Lens defender Kevin Danso, hijacking a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the final stages of the January transfer window. The 26-year-old Austria international has joined Spurs on loan until the end of the season, with an obligation to make the transfer permanent in the summer for around €25 million ($25.9m).[1][2][3]

Danso, who had been in advanced talks with Wolves and was scheduled for a medical after their 2-0 victory over Aston Villa, opted for Tottenham at the last minute following late negotiations. "I'm thrilled to join Tottenham and can't wait to get started. The Premier League is where I want to prove myself again," Danso told Football Insider247 exclusively. "Spurs showed real ambition, and with their style of play, it's the perfect fit."[1]

The move comes amid Tottenham's defensive injury crisis. Radu Dragusin suffered a knee injury in the Europa League win over Elfsborg, joining Cristian Romero on the sidelines, while Micky van de Ven has only recently returned. Head coach Ange Postecoglou praised the signing: "Kevin brings Premier League experience and Ligue 1 quality. He's a leader at the back."[1][2]

Danso, who previously played for Southampton on loan from Augsburg in 2019-20, has excelled at Lens with 128 appearances and a spot in the 2022-23 Ligue 1 Team of the Year. This is not a Bundesliga loan as initially rumored—it's a Premier League switch—but Danso's reaction underscores his excitement despite the late twist.[2][4]

Spurs had also missed out on AC Milan's Fikayo Tomori and Bayern Munich's Mathys Tel, but Danso's arrival bolsters their squad before Monday's deadline. Postecoglou remains optimistic: "It depends what players are looking for, but we're attractive."[1]
