After last season's incredible debut success for manager Arne Slot as he led us to the Premier League title to notch up league trophy number 20, this season was always going to be a little bit different given the expectations at play and the fact that we would be defending the crown. They have been shrewd investments and our newbies are settling in well, and with six games played in our top flight season we have a three point gap on the chasers already as we occupy top spot with five wins and a positive goal difference, however, football always has a twist and a turn and over the weekend we learned that 18 year old talent Leoni was unfortunately now out for at least the next 12 months having picked up a serious injury in the recent third round League Cup clash with Southampton on Tuesday evening.

The young lad was making his starting debut at centre half in what became a 2-1 win, but he was replaced very late on in the game and it has now been confirmed that he has suffered a tear to his anterior cruciate ligament. As Slot spoke to the media to update fans on the £26 million signing from Parma, he admitted he was understandably low right now but the club have rallied around him and are trying to ensure that he looks at the positives of his performance, how he was impressing and the fact that he has a whole career ahead of him when he completes his rehabilitation and recovery journey.

There is absolutely no doubt though that he will be back, and he will be mentally stronger owing to the experience and when he does return fans will naturally back and support him even more strongly as he looks to get back on track. We will no doubt keep him close as the season progresses, and then gently ease him back into things when he is ready and then we look to see what kind of return and impact he can have next season as he hopefully fulfils the potential we have seen in him.
