Liverpool returned to work at the AXA Training Centre on Friday ahead of their trip to Man City, with 18-year-old defender Lucas Pitt involved with first-team training. Isak joined a 24-man squad put through their paces on the outdoor pitches, with the first team joined by two players called over from the U21s.

(Pitt, pictured holding the ‘0’, was part of the travelling Kop at the Amex) His day job comes as part of the Liverpool U21s, for whom he has made seven appearances already this season as well as one for the U19s in the UEFA Youth League. There were no other surprises in the Liverpool squad training on Friday, with no new injuries following the 1-0 victory over Real Madrid.

Much will depend on the workload on those players, particularly the likes of Robertson and Mac Allister, and despite their injuries Liverpool are in strong position when it comes to depth.
