However, hopes of bringing the winger to Anfield appeared to have faded, with Diomande reportedly favouring a move to PSG instead.According to BILD, RB Leipzig’s current plan is for Diomande to remain at the club for the upcoming season.
While a transfer worth more than $150 million remains possible, Leipzig is reportedly only willing to consider a deal if it includes a loan-back agreement that allows the winger to stay in Germany. The approach would ensure Diomande continues playing regularly for Leipzig while giving all parties greater planning certainty. It mirrors the strategy that the Reds used in 2017 when Liverpool agreed a $71 million deal for Naby Keita, with the midfielder remaining at RB Leipzig for another season before officially moving to Anfield.Keita was one of the then Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s main transfer targets during the summer window, but RB Leipzig initially refused to sanction a sale.
The Reds saw two bids for the Guinea international rejected, with their second offer reportedly worth around $80 million (£70 million). However, the two clubs eventually reached a compromise agreement, allowing Leipzig to keep hold of its prized midfielder for the season while Liverpool secured Keita’s future arrival at Anfield the following summer.Liverpool signed Naby Keita and allowed hi to remain at Leipzig until the following season(Image: Getty Images)RB Leipzig chief executive Oliver Mintzlaff revealed that Liverpool beat Barcelona to the signing of Naby Keïta, claiming the Spanish giants "didn't try as hard" to secure the midfielder's signature. Mintzlaff also credited the persistence of Klopp as a key factor in getting the deal over the line.Despite his success in the Bundesliga, Keita's time at Liverpool was heavily disrupted by injuries, with the midfielder making just eight Premier League appearances during his final season at Anfield.
