Liverpool have confirmed the surprise sale of Trent Kone-Doherty. Kone-Doherty made just two senior appearances for the reigning Premier League champions, with both coming as a substitute in domestic cup competitions.

His cameo appearances came in the Reds’ shock exit at the hands of Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup and Crystal Palace in this season’s Carabao Cup fourth round. The winger, who joined from Derry City in summer 2022, was set to become a free agent at the end of this season but sealed a permanent transfer to Molde on Friday.

Although Arne Slot’s side did not publicly disclose the figure agreed with the Norwegian club for Kone-Doherty, it is understood to be in the region of £650,000. Anfield chiefs have also negotiated a sell-on clause and have the retained the option of exercising a buy-back clause in the 19-year-old’s departure package.
