Liverpool had a huge summer in the transfer window, spending around £450m on new additions, but they did not add depth to their centre-back options. It is widely reported that Liverpool will return for their target in January, when he will be in the last six months of his contract at Selhurst Park, but new reports have revealed he is not the only defender they have their eye on.

There is no doubt that Liverpool desperately need to evaluate the future of their defence at the earliest opportunity, with the January transfer window offering the potential to add depth. Despite Araújo’s desire to stay at Barcelona, an opportunity to sign him in 2026 would be huge for the Merseyside giants as they look to future-proof their squad.

The Uruguay international would be a great addition to Liverpool’s defence, but convincing him to move on from Barcelona may be difficult at present given his commitment to the club. That said, it will be interesting to see whether Liverpool will reinvest in their centre-back options in January and what that will mean for Konaté’s future at the club.
