Liverpool fans were very pleased with how their side started the Champions League meeting with Galatasaray on March 18.The Reds headed into the game on the back of a dire 1-1 draw with Tottenham Hotspur last time out.Rio Ngumoha was left on the bench by Arne Slot, which was unlikely to please fans, but supporters did express their views that the overall start to Wednesday’s game was much better, with a higher intensity shown. Love the energy!!!”Another stated: “That’s all we’ve wanted to see is the team press press press this season.”A third added: “So Liverpool can press!! CMON!!”“Love this intensity from Liverpool.

Seems like ages since we have seen it,” commented a fourth.Another wrote: “I love the intensity that we’ve started the game with love how we been pressing,” and a sixth added: “Love that snapping into tackles.”While it was a bright start from Liverpool, the away side did their best to kill the game at every opportunity they got. There was time wasting from Galatasaray from the get-go, going down for long periods under every single challenge and the referee was frustratingly often pausing play so the players could receive treatment. However, to Liverpool’s credit, every time the ball was eventually put back in play they went straight back to pressing high and trying to break down the Turkish outfit’s low block.Their efforts were eventually rewarded in the 25th minute when Dominik Szoboszlai slotted home from a corner. It does beg the question, though, if Slot’s side can play like this, why has it been so long since we have seen them start a game with such high intensity and desire to win the ball back?Maybe if they had, fans wouldn’t be so sick of Slot right now.Join Our NewsletterReceive a digest of our best Liverpool content each week direct to your mailbox
