Liverpool have “offered a new deal” to exciting youngster Trent Kone-Doherty, but a permanent move to another club could also be “close” to going through. Writing on X, journalist Lewis Bower claimed that Liverpool have offered a fresh deal to Kone-Doherty, but Molde FK could get their man instead, with a move “close” to happening: “Exc: Trent Kone-Doherty has been offered a new deal at Liverpool however he has the opportunity to go to Molde FK to be part of the first-team on a permanent deal.
As things stand a move is close.” Can Trent Kone-Doherty become a star at Liverpool? In Kone-Doherty, the Reds have a gem of a footballer who is so exciting, though, with Bower heaping praise on one performance by the winger earlier in the season: “Trent Kone-Doherty came on to make his Ireland U21 debut tonight; was relentlessly direct and picked up an impressive assist for Michael Noonan that turned out to be the winner.” That said, it is easy to see why Kone-Doherty could ultimately turn down Liverpool’s contract offer, perhaps feeling that his chances of regular minutes are slim compared to at other clubs.
He may feel that a move to Molde is better for his development as a footballer, and if that does happen, the Reds will no doubt wish him all the best for the future. It would be nice to see Kone-Doherty stay at Liverpool for another few years, though, just in case the Northern Irishman reaches new heights and shows that he is good enough to be a squad figure.
