In the season opener against Bournemouth, Florian Wirtz was played in the no.10 role, while Hugo Ekitike featured as the striker, with fellow new signing Alexander Isak not arriving until deadline day.Meanwhile, full-backs Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez were drafted straight into the team to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson, with Giorgi Mamardashvili on the bench.Liverpool had a fine start to the domestic season, winning seven in a row in all competitions, but the new signings have all underperformed.Read more on LiverpoolThis has partially contributed to a collapse in form that saw them win only one of their next seven. And Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher feels Slot should have learnt a lesson from Jurgen Klopp about how to introduce new players into a winning team."Looking at Liverpool in these last couple of weeks, there may be one valid criticism with hindsight would be about the manager," Carragher told talkSPORT."Maybe he blooded too many of the signings too early, and it didn't really help them as such."Maybe, even when you look back at what Jurgen Klopp did, especially with Andy Robertson initially, Andy Robertson didn't actually play too much when he first signed, and he was sort of going to the Liverpool team around November, December."Maybe that would be the case with a few of the new signings as well, going forward.5Slot was forced to substitute Kerkez early against Burnley to ensure he wasn't sent off during his initial strugglesCredit: Getty5How Liverpool's two left-backs stack up against one another in the Premier LeagueLiverpool's defensive improvementLiverpool's defensive struggles in particular have been cause for concern, with 14 goals conceded this season before the clash with Man City.Clean sheets in their last two games, against Aston Villa and Real Madrid, hint that those worries are easing. And Carragher believes that's down to Slot finally getting the balance right. He added: "I don't think you necessarily need the best defenders in the world to be strong defensively as a team. They will know each other a lot better than young Kerkez will with van Dijk."That's just natural because he's young into the team.

I think the rotation should have been a little bit more at times with Andy Robertson."But now it looks like he's got the shape. I don't think it's right that Andy Robertson plays every game because he found that tough, as he did at times last season."So yeah, it looks like there's a better balance right around the team. What is Florian Wirtz's best position?Florian Wirtz has also struggled since his £116.5million transfer to Liverpool. The German had been unable to find his feet in a no.10 role at Anfield but looked brighter off the left against Real Madrid in the Champions League. And Carragher believes altering Wirtz's role within Slot's team will ultimately dictate his success in the Premier League.5He said: "It's not a case of you buy something like Florian Wirtz and it doesn't quite work where you maybe thought it would initially, which is maybe in a number 10 position."When you've paid that type of money, you have to make it work.

And also, when you think of central midfield in the Premier League, there's always at least six players in there, sometimes even eight, in such a small area of the pitch.Read More on talkSPORT"Now, maybe in that position where he played against Real Madrid, there's just that little bit more space for him."And as I said, I think he looks at his best when he's sort of centre left, if you like. And yeah, I think that's maybe somewhere where we can see him going forward, where you feel like he could actually fit into the team, actually, and there could be a role for him."
