Jamie Carragher is regarded as one of Liverpool's best ever players after racking up more than 700 appearances for the Reds over a lengthy one-club career at AnfieldLiverpool legend Jamie Carragher(Image: Getty Images)Jamie Carragher has been named Liverpool's 23rd greatest player of all time, in a fitting tribute to the man that used to wear the No.23 jersey for the Reds.A countdown of Liverpool's top 100 players of all time – voted for by the fans – has been going on Liverpool 's website for the last few weeks. And coincidentally, Carragher, who is second in the list of Liverpool's all-time appearance makers, has placed 23rd in the list of Liverpool's top 100 players ever – ahead of Trent Alexander-Arnold in 28th place. The list has currently been revealed up to the number 18, with the biggest hitters like Steven Gerrard, Kenny Dalglish and Mohamed Salah still to come.Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, at No.19 and No.22 respectively in the list, are just ahead of Carragher in the all-time Liverpool great stakes.Explaining the ranking criteria on the club's website, Liverpool said: "The ranking is the result of votes by fans, former players, journalists and a club panel, combined with statistics for each individual."Voters were asked to make their selections based on the ability, impact, legacy and success of a player while at Anfield."Around 1.4 million picks were submitted.

The statistics used, meanwhile, included a wide range of metrics, such as appearances, goals, clean sheets, trophies and length of service."Carragher himself ranks Steven Gerrard as Liverpool's best of all time(Image: Franco Arland, Getty Images)Earlier this year, Carragher himself gave his verdict on who Liverpool's best-ever players are, placing former captain Gerrard at the top of the tree, ahead of Dalglish in second, Graeme Souness in third, John Barnes in fourth, Ian Rush in fifth and Salah in sixth.Carragher said: "Why have I chosen him (Gerrard) over Kenny Dalglish? Because I’m sure that is the big decision that everyone involved in this will have."Maybe I’ve sided with Stevie because I played with him.

I know him more, I can remember more moments, because, as I said, I played with him every day and every game."I’d also say that he probably didn’t play with the calibre of player that Kenny, Graeme or John Barnes played with as well and probably helped those teams win more trophies, or certainly league titles."But the reason I’ve just edged for Stevie for the top of this list is two reasons. Whereas other great players have done that in the past but have probably had a little bit more help from their teammates."
