According to reports in Italy, Arne Slot’s relationship with one of his players is causing the midfielder to push for a move away. Image Credits: Imago ImagesIt is a genuinely difficult time to be a Liverpool supporter right now.Arsenal have just dethroned the Reds as Premier League champions, Champions League qualification for next season is going to the final day, and the mood around Anfield has turned increasingly toxic. That toxicity was on full display over the weekend when Mohamed Salah fired yet another thinly-veiled jibe at manager Arne Slot on Instagram, expressing his desire for Liverpool to return to being the kind of attacking, fearless side that makes opponents tremble.A long list of Liverpool players liked the post, while Hugo Ekitike left a handshake emoji in the comments.Perhaps most tellingly, midfielder Curtis Jones stepped in with a clapping emoji – a gesture that did not go unnoticed.Jamie Carragher was quick to call Jones out.

Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, the Liverpool legend said: “I think Curtis Jones commented on it, didn’t he? I thought that was a bit strange”.Carragher went on to say that it was “exactly why we don’t play heavy metal football – because of players like Curtis Jones in the squad,” before telling him to “stay out of it”.Now, it appears that clapping emoji may have said more than anyone realised.According to a report from Italian outlet Tuttosport, Jones has well and truly fallen out with Arne Slot and is pushing to leave Liverpool this summer. His contract at Anfield runs until June 2027, but the 25-year-old has no intention of signing an extension and has reportedly been sending signals to Inter Milan – a club that have been in contact with his entourage since as far back as January. However, Jones is not Inter’s top priority.

That distinction belongs to Roma’s Manu Kone.Roma, under pressure to comply with UEFA Financial Fair Play before June 30, could be forced into a big sale, and Inter are prepared to pay the €40–50 million asking price.Jones, meanwhile, remains a secondary but genuine option – and one that could be pursued alongside Kone.Liverpool have not yet put a price tag on the academy graduate and Inter will wait until that valuation is known before making a formal move.
