Kelly – who played for the Liverpool Legends for the first time in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Chelsea – signed a new deal with the club in 2013 which included an unusual clause relating to his injuries. “At the time I did my ACL under Brendan [Rodgers], I was in the process of negotiating a new deal,” Kelly told The Athletic‘s James Pearce.
“I still got the extension, but it came with certain terms and conditions when I was back fit. “I’ve never actually got around to writing the social media post to announce it; I’ve only told friends and family, but yeah, I’ve retired,” he confirmed.
“It was March when I sat down with the family and told them I was thinking about it. “Around the same time, I got asked to play for Liverpool in a legends game against Chelsea.
