Liverpool are now reportedly “confident” about Ibrahima Konate signing a contract extension at the club, having sent an offer his way. Konate has been well below the level expected of him far too often, with errors thrown in both on and off the ball, and he needs to be far better as the campaign goes on.
Mixed feelings about a new Konate deal at Liverpool There is so much to admire about Konate when he is on top form, with Liverpool’s No.5 forging a great understanding with Van Dijk and being lauded by his captain last season: “He is a fantastic player who still can be better. He is learning, growing, getting better and looking after himself much better in order to be ready every three days as that’s what asked.” That said, Konate has been so sloppy this season and is threatening not to kick on his career, failing to become the mature and consistent player that he should be at his age.
If things don’t improve, Liverpool may be wise to move him on and bring in an upgrade, but he does have the potential to be a great option if his slump comes to an end. A new deal would have its positives, with Konate knowing the club inside out and still having plenty of years ahead of him, but he must justify it now.
