Liverpool Player Lewis Koumas to Remain on Loan at Birmingham City for Rest of 2025/26 Season
Liverpool FC and Birmingham City have reached an agreement extending the loan recall window for young forward Lewis Koumas, allowing him to stay with the Championship side for the remainder of the 2025/26 season.[1]
Koumas, a 20-year-old Wales international, joined Birmingham on loan last summer after signing a new contract with Liverpool. He previously spent time at Stoke City, making 43 appearances in the second tier. A product of Liverpool's Academy since joining from Tranmere Rovers as an U11, Koumas debuted for the Reds' first team in February 2024, scoring in a 3-0 FA Cup win over Southampton shortly after being on the bench for the Carabao Cup final victory against Chelsea.[1]
Initially struggling for starts at St Andrew’s, Koumas earned a run in the team following an injury to Demarai Gray. This form prompted the clubs to extend the original January 15 recall deadline, providing Liverpool with more flexibility.[1]
Birmingham manager Chris Davies confirmed the extension, stating: “We have extended that (loan recall window). He’s playing and doing well. We’ve had discussions with Liverpool and everyone is happy right now. He’s with us and an important player. He’s enjoying his football right now.”[1]
Davies emphasized the mutual satisfaction: “We want to make sure Lewis is happy. From the club side, Liverpool and everyone is on the same page... There’s a good player in there, definitely.”[1]
Koumas is expected to feature in upcoming matches against Swansea City and Sheffield Wednesday, with a potential appearance against Stoke City on January 24, before Liverpool makes a final recall decision. This move supports his development amid Liverpool's title defense under Arne Slot.[1]
