The Premier League’s international rights exceed those of the other “Big Five” leagues combined, alongside domestic deals worth around $2.3bn annually. As a result, 16 English clubs feature in the top 50 most valuable teams, including six in the top 10. In La Liga, Real Madrid ($1.3bn) and FC Barcelona ($1.1bn) were the only football clubs to surpass $1bn in revenue, alongside the Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Dodgers globally.Real Madrid ($7.7bn) and Barcelona ($6.65bn) are ranked as the world’s most valuable clubs, ahead of Manchester United ($6.47bn), Bayern Munich ($5.78bn) and Liverpool ($5.74bn).The top 50 football clubs are now worth a combined $95.5bn, an 11% increase on last year, according to Sportico.
While this marks the biggest rise in the four years of the rankings, it still lags behind growth in other major sports leagues.Only Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Manchester United rank among the 40 most valuable sports teams globally, a list dominated by 25 NFL franchises and eight NBA teams.Liverpool won the Premier League title last season in Arne Slot’s debut campaign, but they have struggled to mount a serious title challenge this term. The Reds were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Crystal Palace in the fourth round, while league leaders Manchester City eliminated them from the FA Cup at the quarter-final stage.Liverpool were also dumped out of the UEFA Champions League by Paris Saint-Germain in the quarter-finals. They now look to move a step closer to Champions League qualification with victory over their bogey side Crystal Palace at Anfield.Liverpool responded to their European disappointment by edging the Merseyside derby late last weekend, making it back-to-back league wins. However, they face another stern test against Oliver Glasner’s side, who have already beaten them twice this season and boast a strong recent record at Anfield.Palace still harbour European ambitions of their own, although they may also have one eye on next Thursday’s UEFA Europa Conference League semi-final first leg against Shakhtar Donetsk.Despite Liverpool’s consecutive league wins, they have still looked below their best and could find it difficult to break Palace down, particularly with Alexander Isak still searching for form and full fitness.Palace will be no easy opponent, having gone unbeaten in their last four league matches and avoided defeat in each of their last three trips to Anfield.
