Liverpool have rejected successive offers for Cody Gakpo and Trey Nyoni. Bradley Barcola’s arrival, confirmed on Monday, was expected to deal a hammer blow to the Netherland international’s first-team prospects at Anfield.

However the Reds have turned down an £80 million bid from City for the Gakpo with little more than 24 hours remaining to the transfer deadline. Andoni Iraola’s side rebuffed a deal worth £75M upfront with the remainder in add-ons that appears to have all but ended the pursuit of the 27-year-old.

Liverpool have also fended off an approach for midfielder Nyoni, who was the subject of an ambitious late move from Nottingham Forest. Last weekend’s visitors to Anfield, who claimed a 2-2 draw, turned to Nyoni after their deal for Everton’s Harrison Armstrong was pulled due to fan power.
