Liverpool have confirmed that Hugo Ekitike is out for the rest of the season. Ekitike was withdrawn midway through the first half of Tuesday’s Champions League quarter final exit at Paris Saint-Germain’s hands with an Achillies problem.

Arhe Slot conceded that the injury looked ‘really bad’ while his international coach Didier Deschamps confirmed the forward will miss France’s World Cup campaign. The Reds revealed on Thursday that Ekitike underwent a scan which revealed the extent of the injury that has now sidelined him for their remaining six fixtures.

“Scans on the issue have subsequently confirmed a rupture of the Achilles tendon,” read a club statement. “Ekitike will therefore be sidelined for the remaining weeks of the club season and unable to participate at this summer’s World Cup with France.
