The right-back was substituted at half-time during the Netherlands' friendly against Ecuador on Tuesday, replacing Liverpool team-mate Cody Gakpo. However, he only lasted 13 minutes before being taken off again, raising questions about his fitness ahead of his return to Merseyside. Frimpong has already had two injury breaks this season, having sustained a hamstring issue against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League in October before suffering another muscle strain against Qarabag in January. It's not yet known what the problem is for Frimpong, although he was seen heading straight down the tunnel after being substituted by Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman. However, Koeman did confirm that he had no choice but to take Frimpong off, given the severity of his injury."That was a blow, we had to substitute him," Koeman said. The 25-year-old is now considered doubtful for Saturday's journey to City, while his participation in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Paris Saint-Germain, which takes place just four days later, will also be under scrutiny.Arne Slot is already short of options at right-back, with Conor Bradley out for the remainder of the season after undergoing surgery on a serious knee injury picked up against Arsenal in January.Jeremie Frimpong in action for the Netherlands.
