Guehi underwent a medical with the Reds last summer, but the Eagles pulled the plug on the transfer after they could not find a replacement. Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez are the specialist centre-backs in the squad and the latter has been injury-prone in his career.

Any injury to one of Van Dijk or Konate could be disastrous for the Reds. Guehi would be a superb signing to provide depth and competition.
