Liverpool to subsidise Arne Slot’s next job

Slot has been out of work since his two-year Anfield tenure was abruptly ended in late May after the club narrowly scraped a Champions League qualification spot. Koeman announced his resignation from the Oranje’s top job for a second time after their World Cup last-32 exit to Morocco, clearing the way for the 47-year-old’s hiring.

Slot’s stock in his homeland remains strong despite the chastening end to his time with the Reds, where he won the Premier League during a first season in charge. Although he faces competition from Louis van Gaal, who is eyeing a fourth spell with the national team, reports suggest Slot’s financial situation could aid his case.

That would allow Slot to negotiate a cut-price contract with the Dutch FA as his former employers will subsidise his salary for the first 12 months of his tenure. However the arrangement would not apply if Slot took another Premier League job during the period covered by his original contract agreed in May 2024.
