Dipping into the market is almost guaranteed, whether that be in January or the summer, with Bayern Munich’s Dayot Upamecano and Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi two options. However, Fabrizio Romano has just suggested that Liverpool will very likely not be able to get both, with their pursuit of one then having a direct impact on the other.Photo by Catherine Ivill – AMA/Getty ImagesBayern Munich want to sign Marc Guehi should Dayot Upamecano leaveThere are some real top centre-back talents available this summer, meaning all the biggest clubs are battling it out for just a few stars.Upamecano and Guehi are perhaps the pick of the bunch given that they can be signed for free, which is why Liverpool are very keen to get at least one of them. With that said, should the Reds opt to go for the Frenchman first, then that would leave their pursuit of Guehi in doubt, with Romano confirming that Bayern will try and sign the Palace captain should Upamecano depart.“If Upamecano leaves Bayern on a free this summer, Marc Guehi is then on the list at Bayern,” he said on his YouTube channel.“They want to try and add if only if he leaves or even if Kim-min Jae leaves.“But if an important defender leaves between now and the summer transfer window, then Guehi will be one of the options for them.READ MORE: Jesse Marsch reckons Alexis Mac Allister is massively underrated at Liverpool“There has already been contact with those close to the player, but Guehi will not decide now, he has several possibilities. “This could be a domino effect between Upamecano and Guehi so let’s keep following the situation.”Liverpool must put all their eggs in Marc Guehi’s basketThere is no denying that Upamecano is a top talent, but Guehi seems like the far better choice to take Liverpool forward. The Englishman has already shown his desire to join the club after almost doing so in the summer, with the Reds hoping his mind will not be changed. As well as this, he has proven himself in the Premier League and despite all the noise around his future, he has only got even better this season, showing his professionalism.
The fact he is English also means they would be adding a homegrown player to their squad list, something that will only benefit them in the long run.Signing both could be an option, especially if Ibrahima Konate leaves in the summer, but if that is the case, then Guehi must be the one they move for first.
