Liverpool's hopes of signing RB Leipzig wonderkid Yan Diomande appear to be all but over, but that doesn't mean a better alternative won't come along, as previously seen with Mohamed SalahYan Diomande's choice to join PSG could open another door for Liverpool(Image: Getty Images)Liverpool will have to turn their attention elsewhere for Mohamed Salah's replacement after RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande chose Paris Saint-Germain as his preferred destination this summer. The Reds had been in the running for the 19-year-old, but a report on Sunday revealed that it is Paris he wants to move to if he is to depart the Bundesliga side ahead of the 2026-27 season, with terms for a five-year deal said to have already been agreed.Several alternatives to Diomande have already emerged in the form of Brighton 's Yankuba Minteh, Cologne's Said El Mala, Lille's Matias Fernandez-Pardo and West Ham 's Crysencio Summerville, while PSG's Bradley Barcola is another exciting option.Barcola is said to be "still high in Liverpool's thinking," according to reporter Ben Jacobs, while talkSPORT's Alex Crook adds how the France international is also "pushing to leave PSG," making a move to Merseyside this summer a real possibility.Given his experience at the top level, having collected 12 trophies in just three seasons with PSG, including three consecutive Ligue 1 titles and back-to-back UEFA Champions League crowns, it's more than fair to say that Barcola would be a better signing than Diomande.Should things end up playing out this way, it would not be the first time Liverpool has failed to get a deal across the line for one of its top attacking targets, only to go on to sign another player instead.Julian Brandt had been a primary target for Jürgen Klopp before Liverpool ended up signing Mohamed Salah(Image: Photo by Matthew Ashton - AMA/Getty Images)Back in 2017, it was strongly reported that Jurgen Klopp was eager to bring Germany winger Julian Brandt from his former side, Borussia Dortmund, to Anfield, having seen his countryman establish himself as one of the most exciting wingers in Europe. As it happened, the Liverpool hierarchy had to convince Klopp that signing Salah was the better option, forcing him to miss out on reuniting with his former player. Though, as every Reds fan knows, it proved to be a stroke of genius.Salah went on to spend nine remarkable years on Merseyside, winning every trophy possible bar the UEFA Europa League in 2023-24 and writing himself into Liverpool folklore.Following his arrival from Roma in 2017, the Egyptian went on to make 442 appearances for the Reds, scoring a stunning 257 goals and providing 123 assists along the way, breaking countless records in the process.Salah went on to become a legend at Anfield(Image: Getty Images)Just because Klopp didn't get Brandt didn't mean he wouldn't find an alternative just as good, if not better, and that's exactly what happened with Salah.
Now, Liverpool fans will be hoping the same happens after missing out on Diomande.Already, it would appear that Barcola could be the answer, though things aren't quite that straightforward yet.Despite boasting the likes of Ousmane Dembele, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doue among its attacking ranks, PSG remains keen on keeping Barcola at the Parc des Princes, and is yet to give the green light for the former Lyon star to move on.The arrival of Diomande, however, along with any further incomings, would all but loosen the club's stance on keeping Barcola around and open up the door for Liverpool to swoop for the French international.
