Amid the growing talk of Arsenal’s David Raya being the best in the business, Alisson showed exactly why rumors of his demise have been greatly exaggerated. His save from Kevin Schade during the first half against Brentford, somehow managing to keep the ball from going in with his outstretched leg, was a demonstration of what Liverpool fans have known for years - THIS is the best goalkeeper around.READ MORE: Brentford boss makes Jordan Henderson claim after seeing Liverpool receptionREAD MORE: Jeremy Jacquet issues statement as Liverpool signing speaks of 'difficult times'Yet, those same supporters arrived at Anfield not knowing whether they should be bidding him farewell, or looking forward to another season with him as the Reds’ No.1.The day was clearly reserved for saying goodbye to Salah and Robertson, and nothing was ever going to take away from that - not even another disappointing result at home which does nothing to inspire confidence for next season. The speculation over Alisson’s future though made for a somewhat awkward backdrop.

Fans were left wondering whether there was a deeper meaning behind Virgil van Dijk’s picture with himself, Salah, Robertson, Alisson and Joe Gomez in the build-up to the game, and even just making a return for the final game felt slightly symbolic in itself.Fans aren't sure whether Alisson will follow Mohamed Salah out of the Liverpool exit door(Image: Getty Images)For someone who has played such a big part in Liverpool’s success over the years, and was one of the catalysts to the Reds becoming one of the major forces in Europe again, it would be a shame if he didn’t get the sort of send-off that Salah and Robertson got.Surely, with his powers as a goalkeeper undeniable, it would only make sense for Liverpool to ignore the advances of Juventus, and let him see out one more year at Anfield? The problem with that though is just how much of that potential final year will he actually play? Injuries have clearly not affected Alisson’s ability as a goalkeeper, and he still has the ability to come up with astounding moments, with his save against Brentford bringing back memories of Napoli in 2018, or the remarkable stop against Newcastle in 2023.Liverpool shouldn’t let Alisson go this summer.

He still has a lot to offer, and he deserves to be remembered in the same light as Salah and Robertson - but not until next year at the very least.James Findlater James Findlater is a Content Editor for Liverpool.com, bringing nearly a decade of experience to his coverage of Liverpool FC and the wider football landscape.
