It was a heartbreaking loss for the sporting world, still felt today, and the club has shared an emotional tribute to the Portugal international explaining how the forward will never be forgotten.Jota has been immortalized with a permanent memorial outside Anfield but the club also marked his remembrance with special words in a social media post liked and shared more than 25,000 times on X."Today, as every day, we remember Diogo Jota and André Silva, who tragically passed away one year ago," the post read on the club's social media channels."Through immeasurable loss and incalculable pain, the impact they made and the legacies they left behind - not only within the footballing world, but in the hearts and minds of so many around the world - has shone through over the last 12 months."All of our love, support, thoughts and prayers continue to be with Diogo and André's families, friends and all those whose lives were touched by them."Forever in our hearts, forever our number 20," accompanied with a love heart emoji.Diogo Jota remembered at the World Cup(Image: Getty Images)Jota had married Rute Cardoso just two weeks before his death, and his partner also shared her own memories one year after her childhood sweetheart's passing.She took to Instagram to share a clip of Jota on his wedding day and the speech he gave to his love.



"Where the future takes us, maybe there's someone here who knows better than I do," he said."But the truth is, I don't know, and it doesn't really matter to me as long as I'm with you. I love you forever, my 'Branquinha.'"Jota's impact on his friends and family cannot be overstated and his countrymen paid tribute to him at the World Cup after their dramatic knockout round victory over Croatia on Thursday night.After the exhausting action - where Portugal won 2-1 thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo and a late winner through Goncalo Ramos after Ivan Perisic had given the Croatians the lead - Ronaldo and his teammates held up Jota's number 21 jersey.The former Manchester United and Real Madrid superstar then put the jersey on as he looked to pay his own tribute to Jota.
