A man has been charged over alleged racist abuse at Anfield Stadum. The incident occurred during the first half of Liverpool FC’s opening Premier League game of the season against Bournemouth on Friday, August 15.

Visiting player Antoine Semenyo was targeted, leading to referee Anthony Taylor temporarily halting play to notify the captains and managers of both teams. Stewards removed the alleged offender, who was later arrested by police.

Detectives have now confirmed that Mark Mogan has been charged with a racially aggravated Section 5 public order. The 47-year-old from Dovecot has been conditionally bailed and will next appear at Liverpool Magistrates Court on Monday, December 22.
